"Illuminations: Portraits from the Interior” are created for clients who want to participate in the process of finding pictorial expression for an aspect of their lives – an experience, a relationship, a transition. The process begins with an interactive exchange to generate the kernel of an image, often using a vehicle such as a poem or drawing, a gesture or phrase. Guided by this beginning, I photograph the clients and gather other pictorial elements, bringing them together in the digital realm, and weaving the strands into an image. I usually present a picture in progress to the client for feedback, to refine the sense of the idea. Finally, the image crystallizes into a visual constellation holding and reflecting the experience and contribution of the client, transformed by my sensibilities as an artist

The digital files are derived from scanned negatives or direct digital captures, and the pigment inkjet prints are of two sizes: approximately 13.5 x 20 inches on a 17 x 22 inch sheet and 20 x 26.75 inches on a 24 x 30 inch sheet.
